The Last Live Performance I Saw

Daily writing prompt
What was the last live performance you saw?

I had a couple of performances that came to mind. I suppose it depends on how big the live performance needed to be. There was one that had a well-known artist and one that had a local favorite, and I am glad to share about both of them.

One performance was part of the Tri-C Jazz Fest sponsored by Cuyahoga Community College and featured a great jazz artist named Gerald Albright. The show also featured Norman Brown, but he was sick and not able to perform. But Gerald Albright came on and played, told some great stories, one was about his grandson who once did a funny dance when he ate and tasted something he really enjoyed, and called it the G-wiggle. The next night featured a jazz legend named Herbie Hancock. He had a good set of music, brought out some interesting effects that were showcased in other music performed with other artists, and he played about three different versions of his most popular hit from his Head Hunters album.

Another performance that I saw live was at a union hall with Forecast. The band had a great blend of music for both sets and the atmosphere was a bit more relaxed and casual. I enjoyed the experience of hearing great music and having a great time meeting with friends, even some that I had not seen in years.

I find that it’s great to witness performances by various musical artists and even actors, and some may prefer studio work to touring while others prefer the reverse. Seeing artists perform, witnessing their passion and how they enjoy doing what they do is inspiring to me. So my pursuit of work that I can be passionate about will continue, and I intend to learn and practice as much as I can and take steps to do what interests me most, and continue until I find something that becomes profitable.

This project has been a great opportunity for me and I hope that it will inspire you as well. The book Building Blocks: Daily Devotional by Rodney Hamright is now available on audible. Forty days of stories about the goodness of God and the blessings of unity and diversity all in one place.

Check out the book for yourself. If you need something uplifting it’s a great read. I enjoyed narrating this book and I look forward to the next one. Thanks again to Mr. Rodney Hamright for the excellent opportunity to bring his work to life.

Narration: The New Venture Begins

Money Skills for Teens Explained is an audiobook now available on audible. Written by Ethan Wealthman and Narrated by Hiram F. Crowder

Recently I decided to work on my profile in ACX a little more. I finished a course on Working from Home Doing Voiceovers with Julie Eichols. Then I started auditioning on ACX and received an offer to record narration for a special audiobook. About two months later, the finished product is now available on audible.

The author and producer wanted to share some information about financial literacy with young people, and I was glad to take part in the project. Not only did I find some interesting pearls of wisdom to share, but I found that the author did a good bit of research from various sources, and I started learning about things I wished that I learned in my teens and twenties. The recording was the easy part. The editing and mastering that followed was work that demanded time and attention; but it was work that I enjoyed. Thanks again to the author, Ethan Wealthman, and our producer, Yiyuan Wang, as we worked together to bring the book to life. Who knows what other book or books I may become involved with? Only time will tell.

The project was great to work on. I hope to do other kinds of VoiceOver work as well. I may not have to have a big project like this one was, but I am open to considering smaller projects as well. Just drop me a message at hiram.crowder@gmail.com or on this page. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Jesus Revolution: A Definite Must-See

Jesus Revolution looks at a dramatic movement involving a struggling pastor, a street preacher and a young convert who answers a call to ministry. The movie was based on a true story about the effectiveness of ministry that seeks to show God’s love to people that the rest of the world looks away from.

Kelsey Grammer, most well-known for the longstanding Frasier series, stars as Chuck Smith, a pastor of a small church who struggles with the idea of ministering to hippies. Jonathan Roumie, who played Jesus Christ in the series The Chosen, plays Lonnie Frisbee, a street preacher who ministers to the hippies and has a growing ministry where he follows the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Together they start the growth of Calvary Chapel, and ministry that grows in drawing several young people, including one named Greg Laurie, played by Joel Courtney.

The plot changes with the ministry growing, and Greg’s artistic talent becoming a part of the ministry that improves on the church’s tracts and then leads him into ministry with even younger people. Amidst several occurrences of turmoil, they find their way in service to God and working together to minister to the hurting by spreading the Gospel.

Jesus Revolution is now showing in theaters and is a must-see for anyone seeking family friendly entertainment.

Two decades and counting

I decided to wait until it became more official. After 13 years with my current employer and 7 years with my prior employer, I received my 20-year plaque. Looking forward to seeing what the future looks like.

I started with the Department of Veterans Affairs, working as a Patient Services Assistant at the Medical Center. I enjoyed the work and helping eligible veterans get enrolled in healthcare.

Later on I applied for a position that offered some growth. I started at grade 6 and progressed through grade 8. The first four years were tough being seasonal – even with a full-time schedule. Once there were permanent conversions available I jumped on the opportunity.

Now I can officially celebrate having served with the government for 20 years, and I still have a way to go. Who knows what the next 10 years may hold. I thank God for having brought me this far, and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Being Blessed

www.bible.com/116/num.6.24-26.nlt

I remember that I learned about these verses making up what was called the Aaronic blessing. The Lord told Moses to speak this blessing over his brother Aaron and his sons, and commanded them to bless the children of Israel this way.

On the day that my wife and I exchanged marriage vows, my father co-officiated the ceremony with her pastor, who was also friends with him. After reciting our vows and exchanging rings, my father laid hands on our heads, and recited these verses from the King James Version verbatim. I realized that this was a beautiful expression of love from a father to his son and his new daughter-in-law, and I couldn’t imagine a more wonderful way to close out our ceremony and usher us into the life we would have as a married couple and a family.

Our marriage and family have been blessed for nearly 24 years. We’ve had good times and bad times, but in the midst of it all we have seen prayers answered, we’ve experienced healing and deliverance, and we are thankful for all the love that God has shown us. Even though my wife is no longer with me, having died over six months ago, I am thankful for the life that we shared together on the earth, and I look forward to the eternal life we will share, when Jesus Christ returns and we’re called to meet Him in the air to be with Him, and we will be able to share stories of God’s goodness and blessings in our lives between now and then.

Practice to get it right

Practice script from voices.com

The sound file that I attempted to embed, after posting on my Soundcloud page, was the result of some time spent to record a script, search for and combine a production element (music in the background), and balancing out the volume between the two. So far I had one person like it. I am hoping to do more work like this on similar and other projects as well.

Many may ask me if I have a dog. I haven’t been able to own a dog because of allergies. But I thought about many dogs that I’ve befriended over the years, and have liked being around dogs since I was small. Some people may look at allergies to things, like pet dander, and be totally abhorred at the idea of having a pet. Yet I understand that for those with pets, whether a dog or a cat or another animal they’ve come to love, pets are like another part of the family, and just like kids, if you’re going to have one, be ready to be responsible for one, and the most rewarding part is the love that you share.

Promoting positive products, like all-natural pet food, is one cause that I believe in. Anything positive that’s worth promoting, if you want to have a message sent to tell people about it, let me know. I can communicate with you through Fiverr, just click the following link: https://www.fiverr.com/share/42eNLm. Let’s do something great to talk about.

Voice Talent for Hire

I am Hiram Crowder. As a student at the Ohio Media School, I graduated with a certificate in Radio and TV Broadcasting in 2016. I found that I was pretty strong in audio through an internship with an internet radio station, and I currently use those skills to record voice overs.

What are voice overs? Glad you asked. Picture if you will a television commercial promoting a new car, or a radio ad announcing a special promotion for your favorite restaurant. Could you recognize the voice? Sometimes we can, when they feature an already famous personality; but other times the voice could be a new talent who was chosen for an admirable quality in their delivery of the message.

Many other applications of voice overs exist. The promotions for upcoming films, theater productions or various special events; the public service announcements that air to draw our focus on important issues; even the voice we hear behind the voicemail and phone tree systems of organizations. Sometimes a voice over can even show up as a voiced character in a popular video game.

So which one of these types of projects can I help you with? I can send a recording, usually the basic one being an MP3 in dry voice, and I can also add a production element as well. Let’s get together and discuss bringing your voice overs to life.

For more information, take a look at my gig on Fiverr by clicking this link:https://www.fiverr.com/share/xXgVGD. If you like what you hear, and have a project I can help you with, I look forward to working with you soon.

That’s not all. There’s even more content from projects I had as a student at the Ohio Media School, and working as an intern with an internet radio station, all of which are on my Soundcloud page. Check out my social media links at the top, and click on Soundcloud for more.

Struggling with sciatica

It was after 3:30 am, Thursday, April 25th, and I was in the emergency room with sciatic nerve pain. The struggle had been happening all that week. I noticed that it was bad on Monday (April 22nd), took Aleve for the pain, and it helped. Went to see my doctor on Tuesday (April 23rd), got the diagnosis, was prescribed meloxicam, advised me that I can take Tylenol in between. The pain was really difficult on Wednesday (the 24th), and then it got so bad that I couldn’t sleep through the night.

My family has been great. My brother took over helping Dad get to bed so I could heal. My daughter drove my wife and I to the ER since I couldn’t drive myself. Since arriving, the treatment went well, just a matter of giving time for the meds to work.

I tried to be careful. I even tried to do some stretching, as best I could recall from when I had back trouble before. Maybe now we can look into getting a Hoyer lift for Dad, especially to help with getting him into bed at night and out in the morning.

Later I saw an orthopedist, and he gave me another prescription. The steroid has helped in addition to the other meds, although I still had some tingling in my right foot, and the orthopedist advised me that the numbness and tingling were to be expected considering the type of injury that I have. I am sleeping at night, but the pain revs up again in the morning.

What a way to start a new birthday (April 21st). This can get better in time, so I aim to be patient. For anyone who has experienced similar pain, we know it’s hard, but thankfully it doesn’t last forever.

Recently I was led to question whether there could be a purpose for my pain. In times like these, we can choose to draw nearer to God or try to walk away from Him. I have chosen to draw nearer to Him for healing, and things have improved in the past month. I finished the meds from the orthopedist and the ER, and I continue taking the meloxicam with Tylenol as needed. The pain that used to rev up to a level 10 in the morning now revs up to about a 5. I also started physical therapy, and I am learning a new dimension of patience in the process of healing. After the physical therapy sessions are completed, we will see if the situation has improved or if we need to pursue other options, like shots and possibly surgery. I am hoping that, after physical therapy, I can return to the routine I had once before. In time we will see.

Thanks again to everyone who offered prayers and kind words, they really help with the healing process. Oftentimes we need to be reminded, and do our best to remember, as stated in 1 Peter 5:7, to cast all of our cares on Him (Jesus Christ), because He cares for us. God Bless You, and we’ll see how things go along the way.

A Season Worth Celebrating

13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” (‭Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭13-14‬ NLT)

This morning I found myself out of work, thanks to the president. Somehow we knew it was coming, and it would either come sooner or later; but we just didn’t know exactly when, and I wasn’t looking forward to it. In spite of being in hard times again, I choose to celebrate because I have not forgotten the reason why this season is special.

I attended service on Sunday at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, and heard from Pastor Ratcliffe as he spoke about making room for the Christ of Christmas. I am led to ponder what that means, but I believe that I have and that we can, regardless of what circumstances we face, whatever our living situation may be. If we choose to make room for Christ in our hearts, we can have joy that abides within us even after the season passes in the dawn of the new year.

So what difference has it made for me? I have a brighter outlook than I once had. Once I had no direction at all, everything was falling apart. Thankfully, when I started seeking Him with my whole heart, I found Him, and He brought light to what seemed to be my darkest hour.

Many changes came as a result. I moved past a period of depression and went forward with newfound hope. I eventually graduated from college and, though it took some time, I eventually found work in line with my degree. The job was short-lived, as I was only there nearly 4 years; but in that time and the times that followed, I learned not to hate people as much as some things they may do or say. I have a family of my own now, and I am greatly blessed to have company with the family I grew up with and the family I came to know in marriage. I am forever thankful for my family, all of whom have blessed my life in many ways over the years and even now.

I learned that having faith in anything else other than God and His love would often lead to ruin. Even though I haven’t been able to continue in the career that I tried to start and keep going about 22 years ago, the past 17 years haven’t been all bad.

Well, how about you? Have you made room in your heart for the Christ of Christmas? Can you agree that Christmas without Christ can never really be? He came, in history, to comfort the broken-hearted, and showed love to all and even to those who needed love most. If you’re in need of true love this season, make room in your heart for Jesus Christ, after all, He’s the true reason for the season. May God Bless You All with a happy and safe holiday season. Merry Christmas!
