Our Year of Champions

This past year has given us some things to be thankful for.  Championship wins started raining in, and our potential is increasing.

The drive has always been happening.  First win was when Stipe Miocic became the UFC heavyweight champion.  Next the Cleveland Monsters, then the Lake Erie Monsters, won the cup in hockey.  Our most celebrated win was with the Cleveland Cavaliers, who had a rematch against the Golden State Warriors, and came back from a 3-game deficit to win the NBA Finals.  The drive continued with the Cleveland Indians going to the World Series and, although they lost to the Chicago Cubs, the excitement here has been the best since the 1997 season.

The drive is continuing even now.  The Cavaliers have been winning to hang on to their title.  Stipe Miocic defended his title against Alistair Overeem.  The Cleveland Browns, although they haven’t had an easy season, the losses haven’t quite been as easy as before.  Do we still want to win?  Of course we do.

This has been a great year for Cleveland sports.  It has given us reason to look forward to the coming games, and given us greater reason than before to believe in our teams and athletes.

Even other events happening have put us on top.  The Republican National Convention generated rave reviews from the visitors – not only in being chosen, but even in the way the convention was handled.  The renovation of Public Square was completed in time for the event, and improvements continue to make it nicer.

We’ve only begun, and we won’t stop now.  If our sports teams and athletes can emerge as champions, then so can we, in anything we do.  Let’s go Cleveland!img_0594
