This weekend was something different for me. I had to return for a dental appointment, but I got out in time to get some of my internship done, and more than I expected. I thought when I was scheduled for a deep cleaning on October 31st, I would have a one-time shot at it. When I sat in the chair around noon, I was told that the right side would be done, and the left would be done next week. That’s as terrifying as it got. I was set to return on November 7th, at 9:20am. Well, I called EP (Errol Porter, my supervisor/mentor) to let him know I was called back, but I still wanted to cone in and work on the board.
I made it out alive, of course, and I had to schedule a return visit in 3 weeks. When I told them about my internship, I was set up with an 8:00 appointment. Being into the dentist’s office at 8:00 on a Saturday morning is usually a stretch for me, but maybe I can pick up some doughnuts on the way in to smooth it over with the team.
I called EP to let him know I was on my way in. I missed my turn and went straight into my hometown, Shaker Heights. In the main plaza, I saw an Advance Auto Parts store, and stopped to pick up a quart of oil. Then I got back on the road to get to the station.

When I got in, the B-Man noticed me, and I was allowed to join the group. We had a guest, Ms. Kenya Brown, and although I missed most of the dialogue, I got brought in on some interesting discussion, where she was starting a rumor about marinating body parts, which led to talk about zombies, and loads of laughs.
At the end, we talked about breakfast at McDonald’s, and we did our closings. I actually had a better close than last time.
The afternoon I spent working the board for the other shows. Earth Angels came with an astrologer as a guest who gave readings on birthdays. I also worked with Brother Londi for his I Believe show. I got a break to watch a legend at work as Chuck Conway, Jr brought Golden Wax for an hour, playing oldies from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. I got behind the console for Under Construction with Pastor T, and I met Debbie Fruits who came with a group for her show, DEAFinitely Speaking, where they started with prayer and Scripture, and brought open discussion about sign language and making it available as a second language in schools. Their show finished with her grandchildren coming in to do a “karaoke” session, where they ended the show singing the late Michael Jackson’s song, Man In The Mirror, as the lyrics came up on screen.
The whole experience was a great time, and I got to learn a little more about working the board, and reset the mics to be in order for future recordings.
