Beginning an externship as an intern

InterngraphicThis Saturday was the start of something bigger than I expected.  When I was interviewed by Ms. Mikkie for the internship offered at VoiceItRadio.com, I was accepted and invited to visit the studio Saturday to see how things worked.

The advertisements mentioned a possible opportunity to work with Lynn Tolliver who recently signed with VoiceItRadio and had a show called, Just the Two of Us that would air on Saturday mornings. He had a similar show several years ago on a regular radio station, and last week his show premiered on an Internet radio station.

I arrived early, and later introduced myself to Mr. Tolliver, and I mentioned that I am a student at the Ohio Center for Broadcasting and looking forward to starting an internship.  His co-host, The B-Man, was with him, and EP rode up on bikes with his sons, and we all went inside.  I got to sit at the talk table where the mics and cans were – actually microphones and headphones – and soon the show began.

Just as they were about to interview their first guest, EP introduced the guys, including Most Electrifyin who walked in earlier, and I was the mystery guy they didn’t know about, supposedly.  I was in the hotseat for a while, but then they went on to interview their guest, Bob Ivory, musician and author who self-published his book, What God Has Done.  Another guest interviewed was Alex P. Michaels, an independent film producer, who shared stories of current and future projects.

As the show was wrapping up, I felt the hotseat getting hotter as our next guest, Greg, shared about his career as a bodyguard and his current work as security chief for WOIO/WUAB-TV Channels 19&43. Most Electrifyin gave his seat to Silver B who was celebrating the anniversary of the Million Man March, and another million man march was going on in Washington DC at the same time.

The experience, overall, was great.  I had more fun being there than just listening at home.  As for the impromptu testing, no hard feelings, but I’m staying on my best behavior. 😉
